It has been 30 anniversary since the first Toy Story movie was released, establishing the animation giant as a leading animation studio and bringing viewers to iconic figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a brief look into the storyline but leaving fans curious how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Toys
The preview shows the young girl — who received the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a brand new plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and assisting giveaway items locate loving owners.
Certainly, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him show up in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, though. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with him. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?
Continuity from the Last Installment
At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the insignia pinned to her outfit.
