Fall Classic Game 7 Draws Over 50 Million Viewers Across the United States, Canadian and Japan Regions.

The nail-biting extra-inning contest that saw the Dodgers beat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 drew a combined 51 million watchers in the United States, Canadian, and Japan territories. MLB stated this represents the most-watched Fall Classic finale since the 1991 edition showdown featuring the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Viewership Details

The Saturday memorable contest drew 27.33M viewers on Fox networks, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s digital services. According to Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the previous week.

It also stands as the most-watched Fall Classic game after the 2017 Game 7 involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which drew over 29 million. This represents a sixteen percent increase compared to the previous finale between the Washington Nationals and Astros, which attracted 23.19M.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 ranked 4th, the fourth game was seventh, Game 5 came in 8th, and the third game finished in 13th position.

Global Audience Numbers

In Canada, the game recorded 11.6 million viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports. This was the highest-rated English-language program in the country after the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding contest began at 9 p.m. local time, it drew 12 million. This came after last Friday’s sixth game – in which Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed a single run in six innings – averaged over 13 million viewers, making it the highest-rated World Series game on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Overall Totals and Patterns

The entire seven-game World Series averaged 15.71M viewers on Fox, a two percent increase from the previous year’s Dodgers-Yankees series. This represents the first time after 2015 and ‘16 that the World Series has recorded viewership increases for two consecutive years.

Including the opening game telecast on the Univision network, the total US average reached 16.1M. The total World Series average in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1M in the Canadian market.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels averaged over 8 million viewers, an eight percent rise compared to last year and Fox’s best playoff performance after the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball stated that the Fall Classic was broadcast in 203 countries and territories by forty-four broadcasting partners in 16 different languages.
